Dreamspace: Pending Approval is a site responsive collaborative project with artists Shaun C. Badham and Emma Edmondson combining a programme of workshops, walks and events to inform the design and build of a versatile outdoor structure in rural Hadleigh, Castle Point, Essex. The programme centres the needs of human & non-human utilising the area to build a versatile sculpture for meaningful future activities & collaborations. Created in partnership with Estuary Festival, Hadleigh Farm Estate and Salvation Army.

More information on the project can be found here:  https://www.estuaryfestival.com/artist2025/detail/emma-edmondson-shaun-badham.html

8th April 2025 - Maquette Making Childrens workshop by The Hub Cafe at Hadleigh Park. An workshop exploring structures and shapes through conversation, drawing and sculpture utilising materials such as clay, wool, string, tape, bolsa wood, branches etc.

Dens in local woods
Though I walk through local woods regularly with my dog, I never really take much notice of the den building that is present most likely made by young people, using fallen trees and branches to build dens. The way some of the children used materials in the workshop it reminded me of these structures in the woods, and the playful yet temporary character of them.

25th April 2025 - Research with David Hurrall from Hadleigh Community Archive
During this meet up David was extremely generous with his time and knowledge, sharing a huge amount of research recomendations. We discussed a range of topics from lost historical architecture, history of local postcards, and reading historic maps. A piece of lost architecture which really stood out to Emma and I was the Hadleigh Church Bus Shelter on The Triangle. The structure is a hexagon shape and comprised of natural wooden side slates, with a tiled roof and a central lamp and wayfinding signs coming out the centre of the roof. You can see some incredible historic photographs on the website here: https://www.hadleighhistory.org.uk/content/main-subjects/places/hadleigh-church-bus-shelter
David was also in possession of a unique model of this area of Hadleigh including the shelter itself.
